Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior political figure said the incident made him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
